Authors Instructions

Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced (single-spaced for abstracts, footnotes, keys, tables and figure explanation) on good quality paper and two copies submitted.  Manuscripts submitted on computer disk using suggested IJA protocol (Internat. J. Acarol. 14(2): 93-95, 1988) should accompany the typed copies.  Copies of IJA computer protocol are available on request from Indira Publishing House.

Manuscripts to IJA may be sent electronically (v.prasad@ix.netcom.com) as MIME attachment.  Use a word processor program which supports italics (all Windows word processor).  If it supports italics, then do not mark your italic words with enclosures as suggested in IJA vol. 14(2) protocol.  Send copy of the typed article, digital copy on a computer disk, reduced and exact final printing size illustrations, photos, tables etc. separately by air mail, even if sent on the internet.  IJA uses Acrobat, Illustrator, Microsoft Word,  Page Maker, Photoshop, Word Perfect, and other programs.

Adhere to the following guidelines when preparing and typing the manuscript.

AUTHOR(S) – Author(s) name should appear below the title written as first, middle and last  name(s), e.g. Carl C. Childers and Ronald Ochoa.

ADDRESS OF AUTHOR(S) – Should be given below the author(s) name(s) in italics including full mailing address, fax number and e-mail.

ABSTRACT – A brief but informative abstract in single space must appear below the author’s name.  It should include the author’s  name of each scientific name mentioned.

KEY WORDS – Important key words should be included to be used for indexing purposes.

SCIENTIFIC NAMES – All scientific names appearing in the text should be in italics.  First mention of an animal or plant species in the text should include the full scientific binomial or trinomial and author’s name.  A genus or species name when used for the first time in a paragraph, or where abbreviation may result in confusion with other names in the text, must be fully written.  Spell out genus name if used at the beginning of a sentence.

ILLUSTRATIONS – All figures, each with magnification scale, must be numbered consecutively.  They should be submitted in final printable size to fit 8.5 (L) x 6.5(W) inch IJA page leaving space for figure caption at the bottom.  Figure captions should be typed on a separate page after the references.  Figures will be returned to authors if postage is prepaid and is requested at the time of manuscript submission.

TABLES – Each table must be typed single-spaced on a separate page in final format ready for reproduction as is, or to be reduced in size.  Indicate each table’s place of insertion on the left margin of manuscript page.

KEYS – All dichotomous taxonomic keys must be typed single-spaced.  Figures illustrating key characters should be cited in the key.

HOLOTYPE, PARATYPE AND VOUCHER SPECIMENS – These must be deposited in national and international museums and mentioned so in the article.  All types should not be kept/deposited in the same country.

FOOTNOTES AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS – Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and typed in single space following the references.  Acknowledgements, if appropriate, should appear before the references.

REFERENCES – Authors must be listed alphabetically and chronologically by date, and should include the title of the cited material in full, an abbreviated citation of the journal or source and page numbers.  These should be composed as follows:
