Underwater Adventures, Inc., formerly of Nassau and St. Thomas is currently opening up an all-inclusive SCUBA DIVING / SNORKELING / BONEFISHING RESORT on Andros.

WITH OVER 108 UNSPOILED DIVE AND SNORKELING SITES, THE FARTHEREST ONE BEING NO MORE THAN A 20 MINUTE TRIP IN OUR DIVE BOAT, WE OFFER UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ANY UNDERWATER EXPLORER TO SURELY FULFILL THEIR ADVENTURE OF THE DEEP.

Andros Island is the largest island of the more than 700 islands located in the Bahamas. Situated only 15 minutes by air or 2 hours by boat from Nassau. Self-sufficient Andros is the only fresh water source for Nassau, and ships 5 million gallons of fresh water to Nassau by boat. Andros is over 140 miles long, and 45 miles wide, yet is one of the least inhabited islands in the chain.

Andros boasts the THIRD LARGEST BARRIER REEF IN THE WORLD, over 140 miles of untouched and unspoiled reef awaits the adventurous underwater explorer who wishes to make the trip! Gigantic coral gardens and sea fans (so many, one site is known as "Sea Fan City) cover the ocean floor and separate the sugar-sand beaches from the deep indigo of THE TONGUE OF THE OCEAN, where depths drop off to over 500 fathoms and more. Andros is also claim to some of the finest Blue Holes in the world. Beyond the reef line, the deep walls of the Tongue of the Ocean are an unpredictable cruising area for eagle rays, turtles, schools of horse-jacks, amberjacks, and silvery barracudas.

Closer to shore, the MASSIVE formations of elk-horn coral grow within inches of the surface. The clustered groups of corals dot the shallow blue-green waters like islands in a sea of sand. Swimming through these fragile coral formations is like swimming in a giant aquarium. Congregations of spadefish, multi-hued parrotfish, angelfish, spotted coneys and tiny blue chromis playfully dart around in a busy underwater city that never rests.

Some of the most popular dive sites are Sailfish Reef, Conch Alley, Horseshoe Reef and the wreck of the Potomac, whose parts rest in less than 25 feet of water, and just a couple miles South of the resort.

Another wreck, a sunken freighter, known as the Lady Moor, which is approximately 100 feet in length, sits in approximately 85 feet of water, lies just several hundred yards off the beach, and is clearly visible to the snorkeler as well as the divers who visit this extraordinary site. In depths ranging from 60-100 feet, such reef sites as the Cathedrals, Three Sisters, Petrified Forest and Black Coral Canyon have large coral heads and sand chutes that wind past trees of black coral, like hugh roof shingles, cascade down the reef slopes. Each overhang and coral ledge a home to lobster, moray eels, groupers and little macro critters.

Andros is known for its majestic "Blue Holes", of which Jacques Cousteau spent exploring and filming in his documentary "Secrets of the Sunken Caverns". One Blue Hole is located only thirty feet from the beach, while another is inland only five minutes from the hotel. As one cruises under the water through the canyons of coral, sea fans, and fish, you picture this underwater world almost as if you are flying over the Grand Canyon of sea fans and coral heads.

Andros, sometimes referred to as "The Forgotten Shangri-La of the Caribbean" is truly the Great Escape ! ! !

As Andros is known as the "Bonefishing Capital of the World", we felt it only right to open a resort for our guests who enjoy the sport of saltwater fishing. Andros is world reknown for its vast bonefish flats (hundreds of square miles) where the best fishing is found.

Andros flats are considered the best there are for anglers to pit their skills against the wily bonefish.
