(not "I knew you once, but you fell away", but rather "I NEVER knew you)
Revelation 16:13-14: Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.
Revelation 19:20: But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
"But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!"Note: The word for "large millstone" in the Greek means "ass-millstone". There were many millstones in Israel when Jesus walked the earth. Some were small enough to be turned by hand. The one in this passage, however, was so large it had to be turned by an ass. To bring this into perspective, look out your window and let your eye rest upon the heaviest thing you see.
Read Jeremiah 23 (the whole thing) Deuteronomy 13 and Ezekiel 13:1-24 to find out what God says about those who deceive his people. Though he was then speaking to Israel, the moral force applies today.
"Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives, therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will save my people from your hands. And then you will know that I am the LORD.'"
