Every once in awhile you run across a real gem. This is one of them. Fieldstone is someplace special. Not a brewpub or brewery per se, they are a brew on premise. Here the budding homebrewer can brew his or her own beer using professional equipment. We have visited a number of times and sampled a number of Fieldstone's beers and have yet to be disappointed. None of the recipes are too strong on hops or malt, but just enough to enjoy. Customers can come in, settle down at the bar and listen to one of the staff explain the operation while sampling some tasty brews. The way it works is this. You set up an appointment to brew your batch (which will yield approx. 3 cases of beer.) When you arrive for your brewing appointment, one of the knowledgeble staff will guide you through the process of brewing the beer you selected from their large catalog of recipes. After you finish brewing your soon-to-be beer, you again sit down at the bar for some tasty malt beverages and choose a design for your labels and pay the very reasonable price for brewing your beer. Finally, two weeks later, you return to the brewery to bottle your creation and possibly trade a sixer or two back for an assortment from the cooler. Chuck and I are already preparing to brew up a batch to take on a camping trip up north sometime in the very near future. Fieldstone is all about beer (Oh yeah, you can make your own wine also!) and I mean that literally. You won't find food here, just beer. They do have wine that they will offer small samples of, but they cannot sell it at the bar, only in bottles. Do yourself a favor, next time you are in Rochester, stop in at Fieldstone.
Chuck's review is coming soon.
