Grizzly Peaks

Joe has no review for Grizzly Peaks at this time.

Grizzly Peaks is actually only a few blocks from Arbor Brewing so we decided to check them out.  While nice inside, this place had a few
things that struck me as strange.  First of all, there seems to be no theme or correlation of the interior to the rustic sounding name of
Grizzly Peaks.  The hunting lodge theme is of course totally overused in brewpubs today but i guess it just was not what i expected.  The decor is more of an English pub type of thing.  The second thing that i noticed what the bizzare sight of many college aged kids chugging light yellow beers from yard glasses. I'm big on beer appropriate glassware so this bothered me.  The only thing that a yard glass is appropriate for is pounding Old Mil at frat parties while 100 people surround you chanting "chug"!  Anyways, The menu was great.  It had a lot  of interesting selections that arent ussually seen at brewpubs.  The helpings are generous and the presentation is good. The black bean hummus was pretty good.  The beer overall ranges from uninspiring to decent.  They now have 2 casks with one holding the rather brassy and metallic tasting ESB full time. The other cask got me excited because it held an IPA aged in oak barrels that were previously used to age Jack Daniels whiskey.  My hopes were high but i was slightly let down as the beer was not hopped enough and just didnt excite me.  The stout however was nice and creamy with a good roasted malt finish.  As with their sister store in Traverse City (North Peaks) the Red, Porter and other beers are average. Also tried was their seasonal which i read was a west coast brown ale with huge hops.  When we asked about the seasonal our waiter described it as a "chocolate beer" with "like 15 time the normal amount of chocolate".  Not knowing what the hell he was talking about we were intruiged enough to order a pint.  We assumed he was trying to say that they used a lot of chocolate malt (or a lot of chocolate?) Well, the beer was not particularly hoppy or malty but was drinkable.  Decent place to go if Arbor Brewing is too crowded or of you enjoy drinking from a glass half your height.
