Patrick Barnett

Barnett's Philosophy On Art

Art is the ability to create things as one has distinguished them from the world around us.  An artist, through his skill and technique, interprets a subject, then in turn makes a copy of his interpretation.  I consider myself to be an artist who makes accurate copies of the world I envision in my mind and see around me.

About the Artist

Patrick Barnett was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He picked up his first paint brush at the age of eight and quickly set canvases afire with blazing colors of Caribbean culture.  Following his family to metropolitan New York, Barnett immediately impressed the local community with his ability to capture the essential moods of nature with the flick of a wrist and his incisive choice of colors.

Always one to spread his gift with those around him, he has illustrated for his college newspaper and has taught art and craft to the children in the surrounding communities for years. Barnett believes that art is an extremely important part of our culture and in order for art appreciation to survive, it is critical for us to include the children. Barnett’s collection consists of acrylic on canvas, batik and commissioned pieces. In his work Barnett portrays his love for humanity and nature. His art emphasizes unity, love, friendship and the Jamaican motto “out of many, one people”.

Over the years, Barnett has had his works on exhibit at many venues and galleries. He has also received many awards and recognition’s for his original artwork.
