Rotarians' International Fellowship of Ballroom Dancing
The Rotarians’ International Fellowship of Ballroom Dancing (RIFBD) is a new Rotary recreational fellowship whose purpose it is to develop and promote multi-cultural inter-generational friendship and understanding through ballroom dancing and to introduce the joy of Ballroom Dancing to Rotarians throughout the world.

RIFBD received formal approval from the Chairman of the Rotary Recreational and Vocational Task Force on October 10, 1996. RIFBD’s new fellowship application was supported approved by six District Governors: three international District Governors from India, Africa, and Scotland and three United States District Governors from Illinois, Virginia, and West Virginia

OBJECTIVES

  • Establish RIFBD dance coordinators in Rotary Clubs and Districts world-wide who will provide information about ballroom dancing opportunities in their areas to visiting Rotarians. (The role of the Dance Coordinator is described below.)
  • Sponsor ballroom dance events at District, National, and International Rotary Conferences.
  • Sponsor fund raising ballroom dance events.
  • Work with Rotaract and Interact to introduce ballroom dancing to their membership.
  • Facilitate dance instruction for RIFBD members and organize private practice sessions.
  • Organize tables for small groups at local ballroom dance events.

The Role of the RIFBD Dance Coordinator

RIFBD Dance Coordinators provide a focal point for ballroom dancing within Rotary Clubs around the world. The basic role of each Coordinator is to promote ballroom dancing within their Rotary Club and to educate all Rotarians regarding the physical, mental and social benefits of ballroom dancing. They strive to bring the joys of ballroom dancing to as many people as possible.

Activities of the RIFBD Dance Coordinator

Social Dance Programs

Dance Coordinators will organize social dance programs within their own Rotary Club and with other Rotary Clubs in their area. These programs include frequent social dances (ideally monthly) to introduce new dancers to the joy of dancing. The social dance programs of Clubs may include exhibitions by amateurs an/or professionals and should also include mixers and line dances. Singles should be welcome at all Rotary Club dances.

Fund Raisers

Dance Coordinators are encouraged to use their ballroom dance events to raising funds to support activities of their Rotary Club. RIFBD will make available to Dance Coordinators guidelines for organizing and holding ballroom dance fund raisers.

Dance Lessons

Dance Coordinators are encouraged to plan a formal dance lesson at the beginning of each social dance. RIFBD members are encouraged to take some formal dance lessons to increase their skills and confidence on the dance floor. Dance Coordinators are also encouraged to work with other coordinators in their area to arrange low-cost group dance lessons, workshops and seminars for RIFBD members.

Youth Program

Dance Coordinators are encouraged to develop, with the assistance of professional dance studios, a program of ballroom dance lessons for members of Rotaract and Interact in their areas. The goal is to develop interest in ballroom dancing at all levels within Rotary.
