Northern Pacific 6512C, 6710B and 6705C hurtle through the gathering darkness with a water-baggage, mail-dorm, Day-Nite coach, two dome coaches, Day-Nite coach, Travellerís Rest, diner, Slumbercoach, Lounge-in-the-Sky dome sleeper, dome sleeper, and an 8-6-4 sleeper from the 367-372 series in tow. Perhaps 35 minutes late, the eastbound North Coast Limited is gamely trying to keep a 9:02 appointment with the Fargo Division at Mandan. There, a friendly crew change will bring aboard a youngster by the name of Bill Kuebler. The date is August 20, 1969.
